Glassworks Co-op moving forward with Investment Readiness Funding

The board and members of Glassworks Cooperative are excited to announce our success in obtaining Community Foundations of Canada Investment Readiness Program (IRP) funding. We are the proud recipients of a $10,000 grant from the impact sustainability funding stream which supports business model development, planning and impact measurement, and the diversification of our funding sources.

We are grateful that Community Foundations of Canada recognized the alignment between their mission—to fund projects that build sustainable and inclusive communities—and ours. Glassworks Co-op exists to create net-zero, affordable, multigenerational living and an economic development project that benefits Owen Sound as a whole. As part of this initiative, we will create The Owen Sound Community Land Trust to protect the affordability part of our great city in perpetuity.

Community Foundations of Canada funded 257 social purpose organizations in its first IRP intake. Glassworks Cooperative was one of four Grey-Bruce recipients of this grant and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Since our inaugural meeting initiated by inspiring members of the Beach Community Energy Co-operative (BCEC) at St. George’s Parish in 2017, Glassworks Cooperative has:

This summer, Glassworks Cooperative launched our community design process with a Design Charette in which members and investors contributed to our shared understanding of what a sustainable, affordable and community-centred design could look like.

The receipt of the Investment Readiness Program grant is funding our current intensive focus on planning and feasibility in collaboration with Tapestry Community Capital as we work towards our community bond raising to purchase the site of the Glassworks project.

We are incredibly thankful for the support of our Grey and Bruce communities, and of organizations like Community Foundations of Canada. Together, we will achieve our vision of a future where people of all ages and different means can learn, work and live, with voluntary mutual support in a beautifully designed, net-zero community.

You can help make it happen. Whether your interest is as a potential resident, an investor, or a champion of resilience, sustainability, and environmental protection, membership in the Glassworks Cooperative enables you to directly contribute to the development of this community.
